5 Reasons Why I Chose Lingual Braces

· Braces Clinic,Dental Clinic,Dental Braces,Singapore

I rarely visited a dentist as a kid. I never even went one for a tooth extraction. During those times, it was my father who pulled my milk teeth using a string. And it was an awful memory for me. There were times where my permanent tooth was behind my milk tooth, giving me a crooked smile and rows of misaligned teeth.

It was cute as a kid, but as I grew older, I realised the importance of a beautiful smile. And it is when I decided to get dental braces in Singapore.

I went to an orthodontic clinic in Singapore to choose the best fit lingual braces for me. My orthodontist discussed all the braces that they have, including the pros and cons. I finally decided to get lingual braces for these following reasons:

Invisibility

The advantage of lingual braces from ordinary dental braces in Singapore is their almost invisible appearance.

Unlike the traditional brace, lingual braces are placed behind the teeth making it almost invisible in the front. I would say that this factor is what I considered the most, especially that the nature of my work involves meeting different people. Appearance is definitely something important in the customer service industry.

The funny thing is that no friends or colleagues, not even one have noticed that I have my braces. They were really surprised when I told them about it. They were only familiar with the traditional bulky metal braces. I think that it is really good that lingual braces and other dental braces in Singapore are now gaining popularity.

They Remain On Your Teeth

When I say I wanted invisible dental braces, my orthodontist in Singapore recommended both lingual braces and Invisalign braces. Technically, they are both virtually invisible, but what is the difference.

Invisalign braces are removable, whilst lingual braces remain installed behind your teeth. One rule with Invisalign braces is you need to remove the aligners every time you eat and drink coloured beverages to prevent discolouration. You also have to brush and floss every time you wear it.

With lingual braces, my orthodontist in Singapore also includes food restrictions, but it is not as a hassle as with Invisalign braces.

If you are a foodie person like me who snacks and eats from time to time, I highly suggest lingual braces for you.

They Don't Leave Visible Marks

Before I went to my orthodontic clinic in Singapore, I was thinking of getting the traditional bulky dental braces. Of course, my doctor also offered me those since they are much cheaper; however, he also told me one of the drawbacks of metal braces.

Metal braces leave visible marks on the teeth once they are removed. Usually, it depends on your oral hygiene during the whole treatment. If you brush your teeth once a day, the bars and metals would likely leave marks.

The same thing happens with lingual braces. However, the only advantage of lingual braces is they leave marks behind your teeth, not on the front, making it more noticeable.

Effective

When I told my friends about my lingual braces, the first question that they asked was if it is as effective as the traditional braces. I understand that lingual braces are practically new for them and for me as well, and it is natural to question their effectiveness.

My orthodontic clinic in Singapore fully customised my braces for the condition of my teeth. Another thing is that lingual braces are much gentler in adjusting my teeth, unlike bulky braces that put too much pressure on my teeth.

However, there are some drawbacks with lingual braces. They are not capable of treating other dental problems. But, if your teeth problem is not as severe, lingual braces are the perfect fit for you.

Less Bulky

Traditional metal braces have rubber bands, and bulky wirings causing discomfort in the mouth, from the gums to the inside of the cheeks. Lingual braces may also cause discomfort to the tongue; however, the materials used in lingual braces are gentler and less bulky, unlike traditional braces.

Another advantage of lingual braces is you can play wind instruments with ease. These braces are ideal for musicians who play the flute, harmonica or trumpets as no wires getting in the way on the front of your teeth.
